The NBCP tools below enable you to assess the bereavement care service in your Trust against the bereavement care standards.
The Compliance Verification Tool is designed to show NHS Trusts how to verify their compliance with the NBCP standards and should be used as a first step.
The Scored Self-Assessment Tool is designed to help Trusts evaluate and strengthen their bereavement care services in a structured and measurable way.
The templates can be adapted to need: some Bereavement Leads use one form to audit the whole Trust; others use one for each of the five pathways; others for each unit or team, depending how the hospital is configured.
NBCP Compliance Verification Tool
The Compliance Verification Tool is designed to show NHS Trusts how to verify their compliance with the NBCP standards.
It provides a structured method for confirming whether each standard is fully implemented across relevant settings. It is not a quality benchmarking tool, but a mechanism to evidence that minimum standards are met.

The Scored Self-Assessment Tool is designed to help Trusts evaluate and strengthen their bereavement care services in a structured and measurable way.
This tool enables services to quality assess their current provision, identify areas for improvement, and plan meaningful actions to ensure compassionate, personalised, and high-quality care for bereaved parents and families.
